Blackheath

Blacky is a grand old soldier of the sprint handicap ranks. At his best he has mixed it with top sprinters in races like the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sprint and Stewards Cup, the richest 5 and 6 furlong handicaps in Europe, at the time. At three years old he ran creditably in a Group race at Royal Ascot. At eight he won his most valuable prize. Now 12 years old he is past his best, but still capable of winning races on his day. Most racing fans in England will know Blackheath. He is a hero to his syndicate of owners including yours truly.

I will try to do Blackheath’s career justice in due course. To find out more click here:-

Opposite is Blackheath’s pedigree from the sales catalogue.

Blackheath was bought for £9500 by trainer David (Dandy) Nicholls at the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale in 2001. The Middleham Park syndicate then acquired him to be trained by David. The trainer needs little introduction. He is the most prolific trainer of sprint winners in Europe.

When we first acquired Blackheath he had one Maiden win from 22 runs. He now has 13 wins from well over 120 runs and £110,000 of prize money.
